COHOUSING & SUSTAINABILITY
Community - Intentionally Designed.
1. Cohousing communities are co-organized, co-developed, and co-designed by the people who are going to live there, with a true participatory process.

2. There is an emphasis on community, both in a built environment that allows for spontaneous interactions and in programming that brings neighbours together.
3. Cohousing places an emphasis on common indoor and outdoor spaces that act as extensions of the private homes.

4. Cohousing communities are completely resident-managed. All households are represented equally on the board, and have equal voice in making decisions that impact the community.
5. Cohousing communities are managed by consensus. There is a non-hierarchical structure that allows for everyone's parcticipation.

6. There is no shared economy within the cohousing community. Each household has its own income source, and controls its own finances completely separately from the community.
COMMITMENT TO SUSTAINABILITY
Cohousing NL commits to sustainable design and construction methods, made affordable through cost-sharing among residents. This means efficient buildings that require fewer energy inputs and less maintenance, have higher air quality, and represents a forward-thinking way to build.
With agricultural land included in the design, farm-fresh food will be available on-site. This decreases transportation costs and creates a direct line of food from field to table. Farm fresh food is healthier and ensures children and adults alike are aware of where their food comes from and the effort required in its production.
